Canary Islands say NO to early easing of lockdown on the islands
Rodríguez flatly rejected the idea that the Canary Islands should be used as an experiment for a possible easing of the lockdown from April 26th.
He notes that one of the keys to the progress in the fight against the coronavirus in the Canary Islands is the lockdown, and although the Canary Islands are better off than other communities, strictness is needed to protect the population and the professionals working against the virus.
The vice-president, leader of Nueva Canarias, also emphasized that citizens' health will take precedence over the economy. "We will wait until April 26th and then we will decide whether to ease the measures. It would make little sense the sacrifices we are making, both personal and economic, if we make hasty decisions and there is a resurgence as has happened in some areas."
