Among tropical fruits and strict security measures: this is how King Felipe and Queen Letizia arrived in Tenerife.
The Royals plan to tour the 17 autonomous communities of our territory to firsthand witness and support the recovery of social, economic, labor, and civic activities.
This Tuesday morning, they started their visit in Las Palmas and, shortly before six in the evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia arrived at the Tenerife South Airport, where they had the opportunity to tour its facilities and observe the health safety systems that have been implemented in preparation for the arrival of travelers. Shortly after, they visited a typical farm, where there is a plantation of Canary fruit, mainly bananas. At this point, King Felipe and his wife received an explanation about the work done every day in terms of cultivation on areas like this belonging to the primary sector.
Subsequently, the Royals held a meeting where they could chat with more than twenty producers, cooperatives, farmers, ranchers, fishermen, and representatives of rural development in the Canary Islands, thus getting to know some of the needs of the sector in this health and economic crisis. Among other issues, they were able to discuss the problem of the imbalance between supply and demand of Canary production.
This has been the second visit the Royals have made to the archipelago in recent months. Last September, they moved to the Canary Islands after the severe fires that devastated the area. On that occasion, they wanted to show their solidarity and support to all the neighbors affected by the fire. Their trip to the islands is the first of many, as in the coming days they will visit other communities like the Balearic Islands and Andalusia. On July 1, they will approach the border with Portugal to reopen it, along with the heads of government of both countries.
