The vibrant Canarian culture shines anew with the eagerly awaited VII Folklore and Traditions Festival.
A Tribute to the Woman's Footprint
This year, the festival takes a unique focus with its theme 'Footprints of Women', centering activities around traditions, handicrafts, local gastronomy, folklore, and animals. Through this lens, we will delve into the profound feminine influence on Canarian traditions and how these footprints have shaped the culture of the islands.
A Feast of Crafts and Gastronomy
From 12:00, San Sebastián Square in La Caleta de Adeje will transform into a bustling market of crafts and gastronomy. Visitors can relish exquisite local delicacies and marvel at the skill and creativity of local artisans. Additionally, there will be exhibitions of native animal breeds, Guanche and traditional Canarian attire, and loom handling.
Educational Workshops and Exhibitions
The festival offers a variety of workshops and exhibitions for all ages. Starting from 12:30, attendees can participate in shepherd's leap, stick game and Gomeran whistle workshops, as well as learn to appreciate Canarian cheeses and wines.
Moreover, at 13:00, sheep shearing and milking will be demonstrated, followed by a Canarian Wrestling exhibition. There will also be workshops for the younger ones, such as 'Games of the Past and Now' and 'Making Gomeran Drums'.
The Role of Rural Women
The pottery workshop and the 'Rural Woman' talk-workshop, led by the Tenerife Rural Foundation at 14:00, will allow attendees to delve deeper into the life and work of rural Canarian women, who play a crucial role in preserving traditions and cultural legacy.
Exhibitions and Shows until Nightfall
From 14:30 until 19:00, a series of exhibitions will unfold, from horse shoeing to falconry demonstrations. There will be workshops about Tenerife traditions and traditional children's games, as well as a display of traditional costumes from the Canary Islands and Galicia.
Music Under the Stars
The grand finale to this unforgettable day will be a musical performance by Imoque at 21:00, featuring a special appearance by the SADEO Cultural Association from Pontevedra, Galicia. This cultural encounter will perfectly round off a day filled with learning, fun, and a celebration of the rich Canarian traditions.
