The beautiful village of Vilaflor, located in the south of the island of Tenerife and adjacent to the Teide National Park, is a haven of tranquility surrounded by rural landscapes and pine forests.
Situated at 1500 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest municipalities in Spain.
Its natural heritage of great beauty, which is accessed through several trails, is well worth a visit. This is the case with the Pino Enano trail, which offers an unbeatable view of the village. Vilaflor still retains the aroma of a rural Tenerife village, evidence of this are its vineyards, which produce a famous wine, potato and almond cultivation, favored by the quality of its lands and waters.
Its streets and houses tell the story of the history of this area of Tenerife, away from the nearby and bustling southern tourist centers.
It preserves a rich historical heritage, from the mid-16th century, Vilaflor already had a small hermitage. And on it was built, in the mid-17th century, the current temple; Church of San Pedro Apóstol. Inside, one of its most valuable works is the alabaster image of San Pedro from the mid-16th century. Next to the church is the Sanctuary of Santo Hermano Pedro, which is also a pilgrimage center for the devotees of this saint, founder of the Order of the Bethlehemites in Guatemala. Built on the site that was occupied by the saint's parents' house, it also houses a convent of the same religious order.
Among the civil architecture, the Casa de la familia Soler, founders of the municipality, stands out as an example of traditional Canarian architecture from the 17th century. Although it has undergone renovations over the last centuries, its main body in the shape of an L, the corridor with portico and stone columns, the magnificent wooden door, and an old wine press stand out. And the English House, built in the 19th century next to the cypresses of the San Pedro Apóstol church square, was inhabited by the British Mary Edwards and Reverend Thomas Gifford Nash.
The remains of the Water Mill, the first mill in Vilaflor, was ordered to be built in 1644 and operated until 1915. Its arches are in good condition and currently a large part of the system through which the water ran between tanks and spouts, as well as the structure that was used to grind the grain, can be admired. And The Laundries, a building that housed the public laundries used by the humblest neighbors. It is a rectangular room with several millstone sinks on each side. It was part of the system of canals that distributed water throughout the village.
