This year 2021, the phenomenon of the Perseids, or meteor shower, has been visible since 17th July and will be visible until 24th August.
However, the peak of the event will occur on the nights of 11th to 14th August. It will reach its maximum peak on the nights of 12th and 13th August, this Thursday and Friday.
The Perseids are one of the most attractive meteor showers of the year as the meteors are bright and very fast, leaving long trails of light and colour in their wake as they travel through Earth's atmosphere.
Those who wish to enjoy this meteor shower will not need to use any specific equipment to observe it. The best option to enjoy these shooting stars is to lie down or sit while looking up at the sky. It is, of course, advisable to move away from illuminated areas and seek open, dark locations so as not to miss any.
As is well known to all, the Canary Islands, due to the quality of their skies, are an ideal place to watch the Perseids thanks to their excellent conditions for star observation. In Tenerife, there are enclaves that are perfect for appreciating and enjoying the Perseids.
- In Teide National Park, there are numerous viewpoints from which to observe stars: Llano de Ucanca Viewpoint, Tabonal Negro Viewpoint, La Ruleta Viewpoint, and Izaña (Teide Observatory).
- Teno Rural Park offers ideal spots to watch this phenomenon: Masca Viewpoint and El Palmar Viewpoint (Teno Rural Park).
